JAKARTA, October 21, 2026 – Jakarta is set to host the third edition of the Asia Koshien Tournament, bringing together 15 U18 baseball teams from five Southeast Asian countries: Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand.

The tournament will take place from January 16 to 24, 2027, at two venues in Jakarta: Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) Baseball Stadium in Senayan and Rawamangun Baseball Field.

Asia Koshien has developed into one of the competitive U18 baseball tournaments in Southeast Asia, providing young players with opportunities to compete against teams from different countries and gain valuable international experience.

The 15 participating teams have been divided into two groups:

Group A

  1. Bangkok Thunder (Thailand)
  2. Garuda (Indonesia)
  3. JJC (Indonesia)
  4. KL United (Malaysia)
  5. Loren’z (Indonesia)
  6. Rusa Hitam (Indonesia)
  7. Smokey Mountain (Philippines)

Group B

  1. BCS (Singapore)
  2. Cheetahs (Indonesia)
  3. Dugout Dreamer (Philippines)
  4. Gorgeous (Indonesia)
  5. Guardians (Malaysia)
  6. Orcaella (Indonesia)
  7. Patriots (Indonesia)
  8. Teladan (Indonesia)

Both groups feature strong contenders with competitive records.

Jakarta-based Cheetahs enter the tournament as two-time Asia Koshien champions, while Loren’z from South Tangerang finished third in the previous two editions. Garuda, another Jakarta-based team, will also be looking to build on its runner-up finish in the last tournament.

The international field adds further competition, with Dugout Dreamer from the Philippines bringing experience as an Asia-Pacific U16 Little League champion. Bangkok Thunder from Thailand also features players from Japanese, American, and Thai backgrounds.

Supporting Youth Baseball Development

David Franico, Chairman of the Jakarta Provincial Baseball and Softball Association (Pengprov Perbasasi DKI Jakarta), highlighted the importance of international competition in developing young baseball talent.

“International tournaments such as Asia Koshien give young Indonesian players the opportunity to compete against opponents with different playing styles and skill levels. This experience is essential in preparing athletes to compete at a higher level,” said Franico.

He also noted that the participation of teams from five countries reflects Jakarta’s potential as a regional destination for youth baseball competitions.

“We hope this tournament will not only provide high-quality competition but also encourage baseball clubs in Indonesia to strengthen their development programs, expand international connections, and create more competitive opportunities for young athletes,” he added.

With 15 teams competing across two groups, the third Asia Koshien Tournament is expected to deliver competitive baseball while contributing to the continued development of youth baseball across Southeast Asia.
