Jakarta – The Jakarta Provincial Chapter of the Indonesian Baseball and Softball Federation (Pengprov Perbasasi DKI Jakarta) held a Sports Coach Competency Certification program in collaboration with the Sports Coach Professional Certification Institute (LSP POR), which is licensed by Indonesia’s National Professional Certification Agency (BNSP).
Held on August 1, 2026, at the MOS Building in Senayan, Jakarta, the program marked the first competency certification conducted through Pengprov Perbasasi DKI Jakarta’s Competency Testing Center (TUK). The establishment of the TUK is part of Pengprov Perbasasi DKI Jakarta’s efforts to promote greater professionalism and stronger competency standards among sports coaches.
Through the certification process, coaches are able to have their competencies assessed and formally recognized based on applicable professional standards.
Chairman of Pengprov Perbasasi DKI Jakarta, David Franico, said that the TUK is not intended exclusively for baseball and softball coaches, but will also be open to coaches from various other sports in the future.
“We want the Pengprov Perbasasi Jakarta TUK to provide broader benefits. It is not only for baseball and softball coaches, but can also serve as a competency testing center for coaches from other sports who wish to obtain professional recognition through competency certification,” David said.
According to David, coaches play a crucial role in athlete development, and therefore improving the quality of coaches must go hand in hand with the development of athletes themselves.
“Sporting achievement is determined not only by the quality of the athletes, but also by the quality of the coaches. We therefore see competency certification as an important part of building a more professional sporting ecosystem with clear and measurable standards,” he added.
Going forward, the Pengprov Perbasasi DKI Jakarta TUK will open its Sports Coach Competency Certification program to coaches from various sports, providing greater access for professionals seeking formal competency certification in their respective fields.
Through this initiative, Pengprov Perbasasi DKI Jakarta aims to contribute not only to the development of baseball and softball, but also to the broader improvement of human resources and professional standards within Indonesia’s sports coaching sector.
