Jakarta – The Jakarta Provincial Chapter of the Indonesian Baseball and Softball Federation (Pengprov Perbasasi DKI Jakarta) has begun a specialized development program for softball pitchers as part of its long-term preparation for PON XXII. Titled the Softball Pitching Clinic, the program ran from July to August 2026, involving 26 athletes under the guidance of Coach Tony Pratono. The initiative marks the first stage in building and strengthening the quality of Jakarta’s softball pitchers through a more structured and sustainable development system.
Through the program, participants received training in pitching technique, control, consistency, throwing mechanics, and game-situation awareness. Moving forward, the development process will be carried out progressively, with athletes grouped according to their skill levels so that each participant can receive a training program tailored to their individual development. Chairman of Pengprov Perbasasi DKI Jakarta, David Franico, said that the pitcher position is one of the key elements in building a competitive softball team. “We want to start strengthening Jakarta’s pitching depth from now. This Pitching Clinic is the first stage, and the development program will continue all the way toward PON XXII. The athletes will later be grouped according to their skill levels so that their development can be more focused and effective,” David said.
According to David, developing high-quality pitchers requires time, consistent training, and a sustainable development system. For that reason, Pengprov Perbasasi DKI Jakarta aims to expand the pool of potential athletes rather than relying on only a limited number of pitchers. “Our goal is to build a broader pitching talent pool. We want to have more pitchers with strong potential who are ready to develop toward a high-performance level. With a larger player base, the selection process and overall team development for Jakarta will also become stronger,” he added.
The program is also part of Pengprov Perbasasi DKI Jakarta’s broader strategy to begin preparations for PON XXII at an early stage, not only by selecting athletes shortly before competition, but by developing player quality through a structured and well-planned training system.
Going forward, participants who demonstrate strong progress will continue to receive advanced development programs based on their respective skill levels and needs. Through this approach, Pengprov Perbasasi DKI Jakarta hopes to produce high-quality pitchers capable of strengthening Jakarta’s softball teams in various competitions, including PON XXII.
